Me again. NEW series. Finding Illustrators. I get really excited when I find an illustrator that has work that I just can’t stop staring at. So much that I can probably keep doing this series forever.
I found Edward Carvalho-Monaghan while looking for events to put in the fortnightly newspaper at work. So it was literally accidental but I’m so glad I stumbled across his work. The brush strokes that he uses are very thick and bold. The vibrant colours just make you stop and stare. Immediately, your eyes examine everything. Well, mine did.
Another thing that amazed me was how young he is. He’s 23! Most of the illustrators I know of are nowhere near that age. I hope I’m that good with my illustrations by the time I’m 23. Check out his website – so minimal but so cool at the same time.
Also, his interview is on the Ideas Tap website. It’s here if you want to check it out. If you’re into illustration, you should – he gives really good advice.
I already have a good few illustrators I want to type about – Quentin Blake is definitely up there – I read books illustrated by him for, basically, my whole childhood. He’s my favourite illustrator. That’s not a post that can be rushed though, so it’ll probably be up later this month.
There will be another post up before this week ends (yes three in a week!) I want to start posting more regularly this month. See you soon.
